7 Ideas for Good Eatin' at School
It's a new school year and you're settled into a new, cozy dorm. But eating at the school cafeterias can get dull and eating out every day is expensive. Snowville Creamery is here to help brainstorm some ideas for some creative and delicious meals! While some of these do require access to a microwave and a mini-fridge, there are a few here that require no microwave at all.
Charcuterie Dinners
Simple and requires no cooking! Cheese, olives, crackers, meats, fruits, nuts, and more! Finger food is great for study time, and it'll feel swanky if you have your friends over! Bonus: there are lots of low carb, high protein options that make these dinners (or lunches & snacks!) really healthy and filling!
Quesadillas
Make these in the microwave! All you need is tortillas and cheese for an easy, quick version. Even better try mixing chipotle ranch or taco seasoning into a can of chicken. Fill half a tortilla with cheese and your chicken mix. Heat and eat! You can add veggies too like tomatoes, lettuce or even a dollop of creme fraiche. Ole!
Easy Eggs
Cheap and easy high protein! Make fluffy and delicious eggs for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Mix eggs and a dash of milk (Snowville Creamery's pint bottles fit great in a mini-fridge!) in a cup. Put some cooking spray on a bowl and add your mix into it. Add cheese, real bacon bits, or ham cubes. Whatever you're feeling! Then microwave it in 30 second intervals until it's the perfect consistency for you.
Baked Potato
These can be loaded to be as filling as you'd like with cheese, bacon, creme fraiche, beans, whatever sounds great! Just wet your potato, stab with a fork a few times and cook in the microwave for about 5-8 minutes. Slice it open and add your toppings. You can do this with a sweet potato, too! Yum!
Chicken Parm
You can make this classic with nothing more than a microwave! Get frozen chicken patties and cook them per the package directions. Add some red sauce, slices or shred of cheese (Snowville Creamery's No Lac Jack is great for this!) and microwave long enough for sauce and cheese to be warm.
Overnight Oats
You can't get much easier than a sit and forget recipe! Get some non-instant oats. Mix one cup of oats with 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of yogurt in a container. (Bonus tip: you can reuse a peanut butter jar or similar for this!) Cover and refrigerate overnight. The next morning, layer with your favorite add-ins like granola, chia seeds, and fruit. It's a great grab and go breakfast!
Banana Split Parfait
Breakfast or dessert, this healthier alternative to ice cream is fun and delicious! Split a banana (awesome if you can freeze one) and put yogurt where you normally would place ice cream in a traditional banana split. Then have fun with toppings! You can do granola, cinnamon, fruit, nut butters, a drizzle of maple syrup, or whatever else your creative heart comes up with!
